2 postdoctoral positions studying the mitochondria in apoptosis
Two post-doctoral research associate positions are available immediately to study apoptosis focusing on mitochondrial outer membrane permeabilization (MOMP), one of the most critical regulatory steps in the pathway. We are focusing on basic molecular mechanisms of MOMP, using in vitro systems, biochemistry, cell biology and electron microscopy-based approaches. Our studies will eventually lead to developing better drugs to treat diseases such as cancer. The position requires a PhD degree in biochemistry or molecular and cellular biology. Prior experience with mitochondrial research, subcellular fractionation, protein purification, recombinant protein production, molecular cloning, tissue culture and electron microscopy is desirable, but not required.

The applicant must have good English language skills, and must be available for interview. Informal enquiries may be made to Drs. Donald Newmeyer and Tomomi Kuwana. The positions are supported by the NIH and the salaries will be determined by the NIH guideline. The Institute is ideally located on the UCSD campus and surrounded by world-class research institutions such as The Scripps Research Institute, The Salk Institute or The Sanford-Burnham Institute.

Interested individuals should send their CV, statement of research interests and plans, and names of three references to:
