The La Jolla Institute for Allergy & Immunology will be participating in the 2010 San Diego Science Festival. From February through March, 2010 as part of the festival, The La Jolla Institute researchers will be speaking in our local schools to students in hopes of inspiring young people toward careers in science. In addition, we will host students at our research institute.

March 2009 - SAN DIEGO SCIENCE FESTIVAL 2009 - NIFTY 50
The La Jolla Institute for Allergy & Immunology proudly participated in San Diego's first-ever Science Festival 2009. This inaugural event celebrated and inspired Science and Innovation for students all across San Diego County. La Jolla Institute researchers Alex Sette, Ph.D., Klaus Ley, M.D., Carl Ware, Ph.D. and Stephen Schoenberger, Ph.D. participated in the Festival's Nifty Fifty by speaking in our local schools to students in hopes of inspiring young people toward careers in science. In addition, we hosted 17 students from Chula Vista High School for a presentation on the history and use of lasers in biomedical research. Vice President and CTO Steve Wilson, Ph.D. welcomed the students, followed by an in-depth talk by Leo Fernandez, Director of the Imaging Facility. We were all inspired by the students' enthusiasm, energy leval and insightful questions throughout the day.
September 23, 2007 - JDRF CHILDREN'S DAY
The La Jolla Institute for Allergy & Immunology participated in JDRF Children's Day. An event held for children with juvenile diabetes and their families. The purpose of JDRF Children's Day is to acquaint children and families with the scientific research being conducted to find a cure for juvenile diabetes.The event featured interactive display booths, a tour of Matthias von Herrath's lab with the opportunity to view cells through a microscope and a presentation by Matthias von Herrath, M.D.
