How to Help

"The power of philanthropy helps us to pursue promising, innovative research paths that are not covered by traditional funding.  We are able to recruit world-renowned faculty and the top post-doctoral researchers and provide them with funding to support the start-up of their laboratories.  For example, with private funding we can acquire sophisticated new equipment and cutting edge technologies crucial for our Institute researchers to continue on a path of breakthrough and discovery and finding cures faster."

At the La Jolla Institute for Allergy & Immunology, our renowned team of scientists is working diligently to unlock the secrets of the immune system, which hold the key to many of society's most debilitating illnesses.  Medical advancements over the last 20 years have shown that the immune system plays a role in nearly every disease and allergy - from infectious diseases and rheumatoid arthritis to Type 1 juvenile diabetes to cancer.  In fact, there is no biomedical discipline that has greater implications for improving human health.

Focusing on Immune System Diseases
Each day our scientists work on the front lines of scientific research - at the cellular level -- where cures and new treatments first come to light.  In our relatively short history, our Institute has emerged as a world leader in immunology research. We are the only San Diego research institute focused solely on solving immune system diseases.

Your Support is Crucial
As a nonprofit medical research center, we rely on support from the federal government, industry, and private donations to maintain our important work.  However, an ongoing decline in federal research dollars means that gifts from our supporters are more important than ever before.

We are asking those who believe in our mission to contribute to our research efforts.  Every gift, no matter what size, is important and helps our scientists pursue medical breakthroughs toward new treatments and cures for immune system diseases.  Together, we can work toward a new era in human health where the suffering brought by these diseases is a thing of the past.
