The LIAI Postdoc Association, which was initially founded as a discussion group in February 2007, has attained in 2009 an official status at our favorite Institute. The LIAI Postdoc Association comprises 14 members representing 14 different labs at LIAI, and meets once per month to discuss issues that pertain to postdocs, with the goal of improving their and everyone's lives and work at LIAI. Some of the topics we discuss are postdocs benefits, career development, day-to-day issues for postdocs.
Recently, the LPA worked with LIAI administration and faculty to secure retirement benefits for postdocs that have been employed at least one year. It should be noted that those postdocs receiving funding from external sources are not eligible for these benefits, and should consult the administrators of those sources regarding additional benefit information.
The LPA is also part of the San Diego Postdoctoral Associations (SDPDA) which includes the Scripps/Burnham/UCSD/SSCK postdoctoral associations. We share information on career development with them, as well as happy hours.
Yours truly,
